1996 Charleston Christmas Card

This beautiful pen and ink drawing represents Christmas at "Church Street." Named for Saint Philip's Church, it was part of the "Grand Modell" for Charles Town in 1672. Bending around St. Philip's portico, Church Street continues on to the historic battery.

St. Philip's has the oldest Protestant Episcopal congregation in South Carolina. The current building at 146 Church St. dates from 1838
The Huguenot Church, at 136 Church St., a neo-Gothic design by architect E.B. White, dates from 1844.
Dock Street Theatre, now at 135 Church St., originally opened in 1736 and stood on Dock Street (now Queen St.) The current facade is a restoration of the Planter's Hotel entrance, opened in 1806, and fell into ruins after the Civil War.
